The Will County Historical Society exists so that people and organizations can be connected to the rich history of Will County, Illinois. The organization is dedicated to improving service to the county's residence through collection preservation, facility restoration, historical research, educational programs, and topical exhibits.'
Museum.History='Incorporated in 1964 in Joliet, the Will County Historical Society acquired in 1969 from the State of Illinois the original Illinois & Michigan Canal Office and Headquarters Building in Lockport. Built in 1837, it was the central location for the engineering and finacing of the canal's construction, completed in 1848. It was used by the state for canal operations into the 20th century. From 1971 to 1985, the Society created the Settlement of 12 historic structures from around the county on the north end of Lockport's public landing. Rose Bucciferro, who was president of the Society when it acquired the canal building, served as Curator and Director for over 35 years until her retirement and subsequent passing in 2006.

DescriptionThe Lockport Gallery features changing exhibitions of art created by past and contemporary Illinois artists and artisans. Paintings, drawings, sculptures, quilts, and other decorative and ethnographic arts are showcased in rotating, theme-based exhibitions augmented by interpretive materials. The exhibitions are given an added dimension through educational events, group tours, and outreach activities for both children and adults.

PublicationsNewsletter, "Rudder", published six times a year. "Quarterly" journal published four times a year.
ProgramsCurrently provide guided tours of the part of the Museum and live interpretation in the Settlement. Developing programs for Scouts and Schools and offer children's craft projects in summer. New weaving and blacksmithing workshops in summer.
